"P28 was developed by three brothers in the bakery business and their personal trainer/nutritionist. Growing up in the baking business, one thing we didn’t want to give up was bread. We wanted to develop a healthy line of bread products that not only helped us reach our fitness goals, but also was enjoyable to eat every day. We wanted someone with fitness and nutrition experience involved with the development of our products. Our personal trainer who is an experienced all natural body builder/nutritionist was our first choice. We began formulating products with proper nutrition in mind. In 2008, after a year of development, we introduced P28. P28 is the first Original High Protein Bread on the market. We now offer this quality product to you as part of your family’s healthy lifestyle."
Bread: So they gave me one slice of bread...really? One slice...but okay sure! First off, one slice is 130 calories, 3.5g fat, 12g carbs, and 14g of protein. 130 calories for one slice of bread is pretty high in my opinion, but the carbs were pretty low and super high in protein for just one slice...so it kind of balanced out. I made an open faced sandwich with the bread and toasted it just a little. It was kind of chewy...and I wasn't a fan of the crust. It was a little hard and overall just hard to chew. I would not buy this.
Flat out Wrap: One wrap is 260 calories, 7g fat, 27g carbs, and 28g protein. This is a very high caloric content for a wrap, however, it was really big! So I ended up cutting it in half and making a wrap sandwich out of it on two different days. I like the wraps much more than the bread. It wasn't chewy, and had a good flavor. Nothing too speciali special about it taste wise, but it didn't taste like cardboard like some protein wraps do. I would buy these!
Bagel: 260 calories, 7g fat, 25g carbs, 28g protein. Well the calories and carbs are like any other bagel, the only thing that made this one stand out is the high amount of protein it has. 28g in just ONE bagel?! I have never seen that before, and that alone would make me want to buy these. BUT--like the bread...very chewy. The flavor was whole wheat, which you could taste, but I topped mine with fat free cream cheese and a little PB2 and it gave it some extra flavor. If only it wasn't so chewy...
The Spreads: Okay these are my FAVORITE!
Each spread contains 14g of protein in 2Tbs with about 13-14g fat, 6g carbs, and only 1-2g sugar. So overall...an A-
Almond Butter: I am not a fan of almond butter--but this actually was a really good taste. It had grains of almonds mixed in it, and the texture was smooth and flavorful. I know a lot of people like Justin's almond butter...but I wasn't a fan. I actually prefer this one over it!
Peanut Butter: Although it's no Skippy....it did the job taste wise. It was more oily/creamy than your typical Skippy or Jiff peanut butter spread, and tasted a little more nuttier, but I liked it and would get it again.
Signature Blend: BEST ONE!!! This was by far the best tasting! It had little pieces of dried cranberries mixed in...and oh my gosh! So good! You honestly can't taste the cranberries that much...there is not a distinct flavor. But overall this spread combined with the berries just makes it perfect! I wish I could have gotten more of this!!
White Chocolate: I was really looking forward to this one because of the name...and because I really love white chocolate. The texture was good like the others, and the white chocolate taste was there, but not overpowering like you would think. I would have wanted a little more flavor, but I baked a White Chocolate Raspberry quest bar and topped it with the White Chocolate...perfection! I don't think I would ever eat this on toast or an english muffin though...too sweet for that.
Banana Raisin: I had high hopes for this one as well because I love bananas! But this was my least favorite actually! It was way too sweet and somewhat artificial tasting to me. It did live up to its name and had raisin pieces in it...but the banana was a little overpowering and sweet for me. Which surprised me because I love sweets!
Overall---I would give the sample box of P28 a 6/10. I loved most of the spread and the wrap, but the chewy bagel and bread killed it for me. I give props to the company though for coming up with such wholesome foods packed with protein and healthy fats! Like I said--I would definitely order a few things again...but I also think they overpriced a lot of their products.
I only heard of Quest Bars a few times before I started blogging and got a Health/Fitness Instagram account. But once I started following more fitness accounts, I realized how popular these bars were! So of course I HAD to see what all the fuss was about. All quest bars have 20g of protein and over 15g of fiber! They contain less than 3g of sugar, and only 2g net carbs! They are almost too good to be true...but they are real and amazing! More information about Quest Nutrition and their products here!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (5/5)
This was the first bar I tried! I actually first got my hands on this bar when I was babysitting. I went into their pantry to scope out what food they had (like any other babysitter would) and low a behold, they had a box of CCCD's and Cinnamon Roll quest bars! I got SO excited! So I took one of each (shh don't tell)!
I heard baking them or microwaving them was the best way to eat this one, but I was too anxious and excited so I ate it raw. First thoughts, "oh my gosh..." It literally tasted like chocolate and a cookie together! There were huge chunks of chocolate and I was in heaven. This is still one of my absolute favorites. Since my first CCCD, I have baked them and microwaved them, and my favorite way to eat this bar is microwaved for a few seconds and then topped with peanut butter! It is like a Reese's peanut butter cup, without all the guilt!
Cinnamon Roll (3.5/5)
This was my second bar, and I was feeling a little more adventurous, and also had the time, so I baked it! I put it on some foil and baked at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. My first thoughts were "Wow this is really cinnamon-y!" This quest bar definitely had the cinnamon roll flavor going on. I did like it, but I honestly prefer this flavor raw! It is the perfect breakfast bar, especially with a cup of coffee! If you like cinnamon, this is the perfect bar for you!
Mixed Berry Bliss (4/5)
I feel like this quest bar doesn't get enough credit! I really enjoy this flavor! It was my third bar to try, and I am not a huge fan of blueberries and mixed berries, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. And I am glad I did! There are actual chunks of dried fruit in this bar, and little pieces of almonds! It has so much flavor and is not over bearing in the fruit department. Another great "on the go" breakfast bar! I have only had this raw, I just don't think this bar would be great baked.
Banana Nut Muffin (2.5/5)
I love bananas, especially in the morning! I don't know why, but bananas are more of a breakfast fruit to me. The reason I only gave this 2.5 was because it is a pretty plain bar. I thought this bar would taste more like banana, but it isn't extremely banana-y. You can definitely taste banana, but it is not overpowering like you would think. There are also little pieces of nuts in it, so it gives you a little excitement while eating it. I have only eaten this raw, but I am sure baking it would make it taste more like a banana muffin and bring out the banana flavor more!
White Chocolate Raspberry (5/5)
This is probably my favorite! I'm not a huge fan of raspberries in general, but this bar changed my mind! It is the perfect amount of raspberry flavor and is tangy, but the white chocolate chunks definitely balance out the tangy and tart flavors of the raspberry. Of course I also love this flavor because of the huge chunks of white chocolate throughout the bar. It is so flavorful and is really god raw, but also microwaved. Especially because the chocolate melts and it's like an ooey gooey white chocolate candy bar with a hint of raspberry!
Double Chocolate Chunk (1/5)
I am NOT a fan of this flavor. Everyone rants and raves about it, so I was super excited to try it. After my first 2 bites, I was confused why everyone loves this bar so much. It was super hard, and the chocolate tasted so artificial. I have had protein bars in the past and never liked them because of how artificial tasting they were, and this bar reminded me of that. So then I decided to microwave it a little to soften it, and yes it was a LITTLE better, but still artificial tasting. Needless to say, I will not eat this one again.
Vanilla Almond Crunch (3.5/5)
Everyone loves vanilla. I am pretty sure it’s a worldwide flavor that everyone can agree on. So I had good expectations for this! I ate this raw, and I really enjoyed it! It is actually my mom’s favorite bar. I gave it a 3.5 only because it wasn't "exciting" to me. It was plain the fact that all it has are little pieces of almonds in it and tastes like vanilla. But, if you are like my mom and love plain things, then you will like this bar! Like I said, I like this flavor and would eat it if it was put in front of me, it has a good vanilla flavor, and is even better left in the car for a little because it is heated.
Peanut butter and jelly. Probably every child's first sandwich. And also every child's favorite food. I have never met anyone who doesn't like peanut butter. If I happen to come across someone who doesn't I will walk away. Peanut butter is the answer to everything. Jelly, well jelly is good on toast, but that's about it. Oh wait, and a quest bar. This flavor doesn't taste exactly like a PB&J you ate as a child (or still do, that's okay I won't judge you). The peanut butter definitely is the dominant flavor in this bar, with a hint of strawberry jelly. It's a pretty solid/hard bar to start with, so I suggest leaving it in the car for a little to warm up, or you can just microwave it for a couple seconds!
Apple Pie (5/5)
Let me start by saying, this is probably my favorite "non-chocolate" quest bar. The first time I opened it, I was overwhelmed by the smell of apple! This bar even has little chunks of dried apple! It's amazing! I ate this raw and it was perfect, I loved every single bite of it. It has a hint of cinnamon too (just like apple pie would) and has a really good texture. I have also baked this flavor and actually didn't like it as much! It was kind of dry and left a weird texture on my tongue after eating it. It still had all the flavor, but I just prefer this raw.
Coconut Cashew (5/5)
Alright, so if you aren't a fan of coconut, then I wouldn't try this flavor. It has a strong coconut taste, with....wait for it, SHREDS of coconut in it! I first had this bar in Mexico laying by the pool, I brought it with me because the wrapper has palm trees on it, and I just thought it would be appropriate to bring this tropical bar with me. One other reason I really love this bar is because it is naturally soft, so soft it is almost sticky! But who does love licking sticky fingers?! There are also little pieces of cashews mixed throughout the bar, giving you a little crunch. I admit, I was hesitant trying this bar because of all the mixed reviews I heard, but this bar does not get enough credit at all!
Cookies and Cream (3/5)
This is Quest's new protein bar, and they made such a hype about it and promoted it for weeks before they sold it. So needless to say, when it finally sold in stores, I was thrilled to try it. Since all the reviews were saying how good it was, I went ahead and bought a whole box. Well, my excitement ended pretty quickly after the first bite. I was expecting a rush of Oreo flavor and "amazingness" but I honestly did not taste much flavor! There was no distinct Oreo flavor, and did not taste very chocolate-y either. I ended up returning the box! HOWEVER, when Quest sent me my free sample pack, this flavor was included. So I decided to give it another shot. This time though, I baked it, and topped it with Speculoos Cookie Butter. My mind has changed. It tasted like a real cookie and the white chocolate pieces were melted inside it. If I do eat this flavor again, it will be baked!
Chocolate Brownie (1/5)
Just like Double Chocolate Chunk, I am not a fan of this artificial chocolate tasting bar. It also has no chunks, so it is pretty boring. This bar is super hard too, eating it raw takes a good 40 minutes because it takes forever to chew. I did bake this bar once, and it was better, but not great. I do not care for this bar at all. A lot of people like it because it is chocolate, but it has a bad after taste and texture.
And don't be fooled by the delicious looking picture, the baked brownie bites got super hard and stale and I had to take them out and microwave them to soften them again. I know it looks amazing, and the first 2 bites were good, but after that, this picture is just deceiving.
Chocolate Peanut Butter (4/5)
I am pretty sure the next best thing after Twix are Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I mean come on, we already went over how peanut butter is the answer to life, so adding chocolate is just like heaven in your mouth. Chocolate Peanut Butter quest bar does just that, but without all the guilt! There are no chocolate chunks in this bar (unfortunately), but it does have a great combination of peanut butter and chocolate flavors. This bar is pretty soft, so it can definitely be eaten raw, but nuking it in the microwave for a few seconds and topping it with peanut butter is even better!
Lemon Cream Pie (4/5)
Not very many people talk about this flavor, and I'm not sure why! I really enjoyed this flavor! It has a very strong lemon flavor and had a really good texture and is really soft. This bar almost reminded me of a lemon cookie! The bar was even a little "grainy" in the sense that it has some crumbles in it, just like a cookie. If you are a fan of lemon, I highly recommend this bar. It is very refreshing and light, and leaves a great lemon after flavor taste in your mouth!
Strawberry Cheesecake (3.5/5)
Does anyone remember those strawberry filled candies? They came in little wrappers that looked like strawberries and had a strawberry filling in the middle? Well this tastes exactly like that! It isn't super sweet like the candy, but has a great strawberry flavor and the "cheesecake" part counteracts with the sweetness. This is another naturally super soft bar, and was the perfect treat after a long hike with my boyfriend. There are no chunks or pieces of strawberry though, which kind of surprised me since Quest is known for doing that with their bars. But it is still a light, flavorful bar that is sure to satisfy anyone's strawberry sweet tooth!
